How do I connect my brokerage?

Go to Settings > Sync Brokerage. We use SnapTrade to securely link your account. Your brokerage credentials are never stored on our servers — SnapTrade handles authentication directly with your broker.

Can I use ThetaGrind without connecting a brokerage?

Yes. You can create manual accounts in Settings > Manual Accounts and enter trades through the trade builder or CSV upload. Manual trades are treated identically to synced trades across all analytics.

How often does ThetaGrind sync with my brokerage?

If you enable automatic daily sync, we sync your accounts once per day around market open. You can also trigger a manual sync at any time from Settings > Sync Brokerage. Manual syncs let you choose a custom date range and specific accounts. Each sync pulls balances, positions, and transactions independently — you can toggle each category per account.

What data gets synced?

Three categories, each togglable independently per account: Balances (cash, buying power, and currency), Positions (current holdings with market value and cost basis), and Transactions (orders and activity history, automatically converted into trades).

Why don't I see a trade that I just executed?

Accepted Answer

There are a few reasons a recently executed trade may not appear right away: settlement delays (most trades settle on a T+1 basis), sync timing (automatic daily sync runs around market open — trigger a manual sync for immediate updates), or broker API delays. If the trade still doesn't appear after a manual sync, check your broker's account activity to confirm the trade has been reported.

Will syncing overwrite my manual edits?

Accepted Answer

No. Synced trades and manual edits are tracked separately. Editing a synced trade — adding notes, tagging it as a hedge, assigning a trade plan — will not be overwritten by future syncs. Your edits are yours.

How does ThetaGrind group multi-leg trades?

Accepted Answer

When trades are synced from your brokerage, we automatically group option legs into multi-leg strategies. Legs are grouped together when they share the same underlying, were executed on the same day, and have the same expiration date. For example, if you sell a put and buy a lower-strike put on SPY on the same day with the same expiration, they'll appear as a single put spread.

What if the automatic grouping is wrong?

You can manually adjust groupings. Detach a leg from one trade and attach it to another — or create a new standalone trade from it. After regrouping, the strategy classification updates automatically.

How are strategies classified?

Accepted Answer

Once legs are grouped, we automatically identify the strategy type — short put, iron condor, strangle, calendar spread, and more — based on the combination of legs, their sides, and strike prices. You can also override the classification manually if needed.

How are manually entered trades grouped?

When you build a multi-leg trade in the trade builder, all legs you add are grouped together as a single strategy. For CSV uploads, grouping is determined by the structure of your file — rows that share a reference or symbol/date combination are grouped together.

What's the difference between a synced account and a manual account?

Accepted Answer

A synced account is linked to your brokerage through SnapTrade and receives automatic data updates. A manual account is one you create yourself — useful for brokerages we don't support yet, paper trading, or tracking strategies separately. Both account types appear in all analytics and performance views.

Can I edit synced trades?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can add notes, hashtags, assign trade plans, mark trades as hedges, and update status on any trade — regardless of whether it was synced or manually entered. Your edits are stored locally and will not be overwritten by future syncs.

How do I upload trades via CSV?

Go to Settings > Uploads. Download the CSV template, fill in your trades, and upload the file. The system validates each row and shows you any errors before importing. Uploaded trades flow through the same analytics pipeline as synced trades.

How is P&L calculated?

For closed trades, P&L is calculated from the difference between entry and exit prices, adjusted for quantity and fees. For open trades, we use current market prices to estimate unrealized P&L.

What is the Discipline Score?

The discipline score measures how consistently you follow your trade plans. It's a weighted metric based on three factors: hitting your profit targets (40%), staying within your stop losses (35%), and closing before your DTE target (25%). You need trade plans assigned to your trades for this metric to calculate.

What are Trade Plans?

Trade plans define your exit rules for a strategy — profit target %, stop loss %, and target exit DTE. Create them in Settings > Trade Plans, then assign them to trades. ThetaGrind tracks how well you follow your plans over time.

We track Sharpe ratio, Sortino ratio, maximum drawdown, win rate, average days in trade, return on risk, and annualized returns. All metrics can be filtered by account, strategy, and date range.

No. All stock and option quotes displayed in ThetaGrind are delayed by at least 15 minutes. They are provided for informational and analytical purposes only and should not be used for real-time trading decisions. Always refer to your broker for live pricing.

Option risk profile graphs and underlying price action charts are powered by TradingView Lightweight Charts, an open-source charting library. These charts are rendered locally in your browser for fast, interactive visualization.

A built-in journal for recording trading observations, lessons, and analysis. Entries support rich text and hashtags for categorization, and can be linked directly to specific trades. Use the timeline heatmap to visualize your journaling consistency over time.

Your brokerage credentials are handled entirely by SnapTrade — we never see or store them. All user data is isolated with row-level security policies, meaning you can only ever access your own data. API endpoints are rate-limited and protected against common attack vectors.

No. All data is private to your account. Every database query is scoped to your authenticated user ID through row-level security. Your trades, journal entries, and account data are never visible to other users.
